Tteokbokki, the quintessential Korean street food, delights your taste buds with a harmony of chewy tteok (rice cake), spongyeomuk (fish cake), fresh vegetables, and spicy gochujang (red pepper paste). It is the ultimate soul food for many Koreans. Today, tteokbokki is undergoing a myriad of transformations. Some would replace standard tteok with cheese tteok or sweet potato tteok, or add rosésauce instead of gochujang.

These days, it is trendy to use rice paper to make tteokbokki, because it has a similar chewy texture but fewer calories than tteok. You just need to soak layers of rice paper in hot water, roll them up, and add rosésauce. There is your rice paper rosétteokbokki.

If you want to know more about how rice paper, one of the main ingredients in ASEAN cooking, became incorporated into Korea’s popular snack, scan the QR code for the rice paper rosétteokbokki recipe. It directs you to a recipe video at the ASEAN Culture House’s YouTube channel.
