Laksa, one of Malaysia’s signature dishes, is a spicy rice noodle soup with a coconut milk base. The exquisite mix of sweetness from the coconut and spiciness from the broth, although unfamiliar to many Koreans, makes laksa one addictive dish. While the exact ingredients vary by region of course, generally, seafood or chicken are used as toppings. In most preparations, a wide range of herbs are also added to provide greater depth of flavor.

There are broadly two types of laksa: the tangy asam laksa with a broth made from tamarind juice, and laksa lemak, the more standard, mild-tasting version with coconut milk.
