In both the East and the West, a variety of stories exist about the characteristics of flowers and plants. The Malaysian “Story of Mimosa” is one of them. In Korean, the mimosa is called hamsucho – with ham meaning withholding, su meaning shyness, and cho meaning plant – because it folds its leaves when touched as if it felt shy. The beloved Malaysian folk tale tells the story of the shy princess Seri Buana and the prince Tungku Rudin who falls in love with her. The Story of Mimosa allows readers to get to know this Malaysian folk tale in three languages: Korean, English, and Malay.
