Why the Water Buffalo Has No Upper Teeth
Written by: Han Seung-hee, Makinmeita, Yoo Hye-sun / Pictures: Kim Gong-joo / 2019
Why the Water Buffalo Has No Upper Teeth is a humorous and imaginative story based on a traditional fairy tale from Myanmar. In the old days, Myanmar people made up this interesting story when they found out that unlike horses, which have larger upper teeth, water buffaloes don’t have any upper teeth. In the fairy tale, the water buffalo originally had two rows of clean teeth. One day, the buffalo felt sorry for a bull, who did not have any upper teeth, and so he lent his upper teeth to the bull. The bull then went to a concert hall to have some fun, but while it was there, a horse that did not have any upper teeth, just like the bull, got greedy and tried to take the upper teeth away from the bull. What happened to the bull, the horse, and the buffalo? If you are curious, you can find out how the story continues in the picture book Why the Water Buffalo Has No Upper Teeth.
