Looking Forward to Your Continued Interest and Support

The 21st century era is a period that emphasizes a country’s “soft power,” the capability to advance its national interests based on cultural endeavors and influences. Promoting a positive image of Korea and boosting the value of the “Korea brand” throughout the international community are today just as essential as “hard power” factors, like defense capability and economic strength.

In recognition of the significance of public diplomacy based on such soft power, the Korea Foundation, founded in 1991, has implemented a variety of international exchange programs, including support for Korean Studies abroad as well as intellectual and cultural exchanges, to enhance understanding about Korea and promote goodwill and friendship among the global community. In this way, the Korea Foundation has contributed to a globalization of Korean culture and reinforcement of the value of the “Korea brand,” through exchange with other cultures around the world for the past 16 years.

Accordingly, for a better understanding about and to rally support for the Foundation’s activities from the general public of Korea, it is necessary for us to make the various endeavors of the Foundation more widely known among interested persons and organizations here in Korea. For this, we will now be publishing the Korea Foundation Newsletter on a monthly basis, as compared to the previous quarterly publication.

In addition to providing more timely and diversified content, such as more detailed information on our programs and activities, along with accompanying photos, the newsletter will distributed to an expanded list of relevant international exchange organizations and academic institutions in Korea, as well as museums, cultural venues, and public facilities, like train stations and bus terminals.

Although it appears that foreign individuals and organizations are the primary beneficiaries of the Foundation’s programs, in fact, it is the Korean people who ultimately benefit from the improvement of Korea’s global image abroad. As such, it is proper and critical for the Korea Foundation to be better understood by relevant parties within Korea. And through such understanding of the Foundation’s goals and mission, it is hoped that a groundwork can be laid for more concerted support and encouragement from the Korean public. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or comments about our Newsletter. We sincerely look forward to your continued interest in and encouragement of the Korea Foundation.
