The Winter 2015 edition of Koreana, the KF’s quarterly magazine on the arts and culture of Korea, is available in December. This edition spotlights the Seowon, the educational institutions of the Joseon Dynasty era, where students received specialized instruction from Confucian scholars. Various aspects of the Seowon are presented, including its distinctive architecture, as well as a reemergence of the traditional Seowon as an alternative center for education in Korea’s contemporary society, and the modernized Seowon that offer instruction on humanities-related education.
