A Letter from Vietnam

A letter of a Vietnamese student, a participant of
KF-KB Overseas Korean Language Learners program

Dear Korea Foundation:
Hello! I am Vo Huynh Nhu Hang from Vietnam and I participated in the KF-KB Overseas Korean Language Learners program. First of all, I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this 8-day program.
South Korea and Vietnam have maintained official relations since 1992. The two sides have pursued cooperative relations in various fields of interest up to the 20th anniversary of this alliance, while making notable achievements along the way. In the academic field, Korean Studies has expanded along with the development of upgraded relations and enhanced cultural and economic activities. Numerous graduate students of Korean Studies have played a vital role in contributing to the political, cultural, and economic growth between Korea and Vietnam. While studying Korean, with my affection for Korean culture and language, I gained invaluable knowledge thanks to the care and effort of the professors of the Korean Studies Department. Therefore, I am so grateful to be part of this workshop program.
If it were not for the KF, I would never have come to Korea. This workshop is such a valuable opportunity and meaningful experience for me. I can still see the vivid hopes of students and their desire to find out more about Korea through this program. I was able to enjoy the beauty of Korea by visiting traditional and modern places of Seoul, witnessing old scenes of Korea, and going through Tal-chum. I would never forget my memories during the eight days of the workshop, especially because we shared joyful conversations in Korean, not my mother-tongue.
It is also such a lucky chance for me and other foreign friends to directly experience “Jeong” and the beauty of Korea which we had studied about only through books. Korean “Jeong” is not just to be delivered through talk, but an of truthful concern. Although there were chilling days during my stay, my heart was full of affection thanks to this “Jeong.” The beauty of Korea cannot be easily defined and is so extraordinary especially to me, and I thereby have to feel it directly with my own eyes and heart. Korea means so much to me and will always remain as one of the countries I will dream about visiting again.
Above all, I give my sincere regards to Director Hyang-Joo Park who provided us with this great opportunity to take another step higher toward Korean Studies and Program Officer Mi-Li Rho who helped us with the visa process and supported us throughout the entire workshop period. Lastly, I will keep focused on Korean Studies so that I might be able to contribute to further “advancing the cooperative relationship between Korea and Vietnam in the 21st century.”
