‘ASEAN at Your School’ for Elementary School Students

The ASEAN Culture House (ACH) in Busan, operated by the KF, will soon launch the “ASEAN at Your School” program to promote elementary school students’ understanding of the ASEAN member states.

Running from April through November, the program will offer a variety of experiences customized for first- to sixth-year students. This year, the program will feature fun and educational content that proved particularly popular among participants in last year’s pilot operation.

First- and second-year students will learn about traditional instruments, games, and field-day sports, as well as unique traditional attire from various ASEAN member states. Those in the third and fourth grades will be taught about ASEAN festivals and commemorative days. Students will also be able to prepare simple dishes and sample the respective ingredients in an ASEAN cooking class. Finally, fifth- and sixth-year students, following an “ASEAN arts and tourism” theme, will create the ball used in sepaktakraw, or kick volleyball, as well as models of landmark buildings. Instructors from ASEAN member states will introduce their respective home countries and cultures directly to participating students, allowing them to gain accurate information from ASEAN natives.

Elementary schools in Busan may apply by school grade to participate in the “ASEAN at Your School” program. All classes in the selected grade will be able to participate. For more information, please visit the ACH website (www.ach.or.kr).
