Turon, Philippine children’s favorite snack

ASEAN CULTURE HOUSE YouTube

Thanks to the abundance of tropical fruits, the Philippines has a whole array of dishes and snacks made of pineapples or bananas. Due to the hot and humid climate, people love eating sweet and spicy foods to refresh their energy.

One of the favorite snacks among children is turon. It is made of thinly sliced saba bananas—a variety often used in cooking—that are dusted with brown sugar, rolled in a spring-roll wrapper, and fried till the wrapper is crisp.

Turon can also include other fillings such as jackfruit, sweet potato, or mango.Eating just one turon is enough to fill your stomach. Since bananas are rich in magnesium, vitamin A, potassium, and dietary fiber, they are very nutritious for children.

Since bananas are also low in fructose and high in glucose, they arean excellent substitute for staple food.If you want to know more about turon, please scan the QR code, which directs you to a recipe video at the ASEAN Culture House’s YouTube channel.
