The ranat is one of the most popular types of traditional Thai percussion instruments. The precise name of each ranat changes according to its material and range. The ranat ek is made of wood and plays in a high pitch range.

The saw u is a traditional Thai string instrument played with a bow. The sound box of the saw u is made from a special type of coconut and is covered with cowhide on one side. The bow, made of horse tail hair, is attached to the body, which features strings made of silk.

In poetry, repetition has the effect of adding fun and rhythm to a text. The same applies to music. A wide variety of music genres, including modern pop, use repeated scales and beats to create catchy tunes that feel familiar. Sarathi, a piece of traditional Thai instrumental music, follows a rhythmic structure called sam chan. Divided into three movements, Sarathi is composed of beats and tones that are similar yet different, keeping listeners riveted from start to finish. To listen to this poetic instrumental music performed on the lively ranat ek (Thai xylophone) and elegant saw u (traditional Thai string instrument), visit the KF-ACH YouTube channel by scanning the QR code.
