[The World in Korea]Ulsan’s Little China—Liaoyang White Tower Park

Nearby Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village in Ulsan’s Nam District is Liaoyang White Tower Park, where visitors can experience Chinese culture. The park opened in May 2016 as a symbol of the friendship between Nam District and Liaoyang City in Liaoning Province, China. Signing an agreement of international friendship and exchange in 2003, the district and the city have expanded their friendly relations in various fields, including the proposal and completion of corresponding friendship parks.

Visitors may view or borrow books on the transcontinental country classified by category, as well as visual materials and various periodicals that provide tourist tips and information on Turkey’s domestic situation. The center’s small exhibition hall displays photographs, artworks, clothes, handicrafts, folk art, and ceramics, and the materials on show rotate by exhibition period.

At Liaoyang White Tower Park, visitors can see a miniature version of a white pagoda at Guangyou Temple in Liaoyang. A walk through the traditional Chinese-style paifang (arched gateway) leads to a garden with a pond. The meticulously designed garden is the ideal place to take a rest, and the pond with a statue of a three-legged toad found in Chinese legends offers unique inspiration. Visitors will feel like they have been transported to China as they take in the Chinese-style leak windows, arches, lion statues, and stone bridges.

If you are planning to visit Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village, make sure to savor the impressive surroundings and learn about Chinese culture at Liaoyang White Tower Park as well.
