2023 ASEAN Language Course

The KF ASEAN Culture House is offering ASEAN language courses in conjunction with the Critical Foreign Languages Education Promotion at the Busan University of Foreign Studies. This educational program is designed to enhance Koreans’ understanding of ASEAN. Anyone over the age of 12 is welcome to com learn the languages of the five ASEAN member states, including Burmese, Khmer (Cambodia), Malay/Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese.

The language courses are largely divided into regular courses (held in the first and second halves of the year) and summer and winter vacation courses. The regular courses take place for 10 weeks at the basic, beginner, and intermediate levels, and the vacation courses run for two weeks as intensive speaking courses for learners who already know the of the language they are studying.

The regular courses for the first half of 2023 began on Monday, April 3, and a completion ceremony will be held in the first and second weeks of June. In addition, the summer vacation course will start recruiting students in July and open in August, and the regular courses for the second half of the year will start recruiting students in August and begin in September.

In the first half of the year, the regular courses included basic courses in all five languages held online in the evening hours. People who work and find it difficult to participate during the day or those who do not live in Busan were therefore also able to learn the languages of ASEAN member countries. To make the courses accessible to more learners, the KF ACH plans to add more contactless online courses in the future.

With the WHO’s lifting of the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) and the government’s declaration of COVID-19 as an endemic, we strongly recommend this valuable opportunity to learn the language of ASEAN member countries for any anticipated trips to ASEAN.
