The ASEAN Culture House showcases a selection of photographs capturing the lives and cultures of people living in the countries of ASEAN (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) in its special exhibition, “ASEAN People, ASEAN Lives.”
In 2017, the Agency for Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition of the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held an online photo contest to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). A total of 1,248 professional and amateur photographers representing the 10 ASEAN countries submitted 10,127 photographs. Among them, a selection committee consisting of experts in ASEAN culture and photography selected 230 photographic works. The photographers who submitted the ten best entries were also awarded the “2017 ASEAN Photograph Cup.” 200 of these photos, including the winners, are being displayed in the exhibition of the ASEAN Culture House.
The exhibition is arranged according to keywords, including ‘people’, ‘art and culture’, ‘festival’, ‘nature’, ‘city’, ‘religion’ and ‘daily life’. We hope the exhibition will help promote a better understanding of the diverse and dynamic ASEAN community’s ways of life, through the ASEAN people’s very own perspectives on their lives.
