Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Presents‘Nam June Paik: The Future is Now’

As part of its program promoting Korean exhibitions at overseas museums, the KF will be supporting Nam June Paik: The Future is Now, an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam from March through August of this year.

Founded in 1874, the Stedelijk Museum is one of the three pillars of contemporary art collections, together with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The Future is Now is the first solo show of Paik’s works staged by the Dutch museum since 1977.

The exhibition will be divided into 16 categories in 16 rooms in the museum, each with a theme such as “Exposition of Music,”“John Cage/Merce Cunningham,” and “Technology/Participation,” representing aspects of the artist’s creative world. Paik’s installation Sistine Chapel, for which he received the Golden Lion award at the Venice Biennale in 1993, will also be set up in the museum’s Hall of Honor for public viewing.

The exhibition will open with a ceremony on March 13 and continue through August 23. Afterwards, the show will tour the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery Singapore, and other international venues.
