New Installation Recreates Welcome Dinner at 1st Mekong-ROK Summit

A new installation at the ASEAN Culture House’s Permanent Exhibition Gallery commemorates the Welcome Dinner of the First Mekong-Republic of Korea Summit, held on November 26, 2019, at the ACH in Busan. The installation features the original tables and chairs, replicates of the centerpieces, and table cloths, banners, and other items that were used at the dinner. Together with photographs of the special occasion, the exhibit allows visitors to feel as if they are attending the dinner themselves.

The inaugural Mekong-ROK Summit, held on the following day, represented a step up from the Mekong-Korea Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which was launched in 2011 at the suggestion of the South Korean government. At the welcome dinner, President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook welcomed Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc and Mrs. Trần Thị Nguyệt Thu; Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Mrs. Naraporn Chan-o-cha; Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi; Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and Mrs. Naly Sisoulith; and Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
