2017 Korea-Japan Youth Exchange Program

The KF will send 28 Korean university students to Tokyo and Hokkaido in Japan, and invite an equal number of Japanese students to Seoul and Pyeongchang on September 20–29 as a part of the Korea-Japan Youth Exchange Program. The Korean students will visit Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related institutions, while their Japanese counterparts will do the same in Korea. The exchange program will also enable the participants to meet college students in their host countries and experience the local culture by taking part in homestays and various activities, thus promoting friendship between the younger generations of the two neighbors. As the theme of this year’s program is “Olympics and Paralympics,” the students shall visit the venues of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games to help build a deeper understanding of these monumental sporting events.
The upcoming visits will mark the 46th year of the bilateral youth exchange program. Based on an agreement reached at the fifth Korea-Japan Ministerial Conference in 1971, the Korea Foundation has implemented the Korea-Japan Youth Exchange Program annually since 1972, hosted by the foreign ministries of each country, and sponsored by the KF and the Japan-Korea Cultural Foundation.
