‘Couture Korea’ in San Francisco

A feature exhibition highlighting the traditional Korean Hanbok will be held at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco from November 3, 2017, to February 4, 2018. The KF-supported exhibition will be the first show in the United States to cover the past, present, and future of Korean fashion, examining its role as an expression of social and cultural values. The exhibition will feature modern interpretations of traditional Korean costumes together with Chanel’s Korean culture–inspired clothing designed by Karl Lagerfeld.
The museum is home to the greatest collection of Asian artworks in the US, having opened its Korean Gallery in 1989. When it moved to its present site in 2003, the gallery was expanded with funds from the KF.
The upcoming exhibition is expected to be instrumental in publicizing the beauty of traditional Korean garments overseas. The KF will continue to introduce Korean culture to a global audience in close cooperation with prestigious museums around the world.
