ASEAN Cinema Week 2019—ASEAN Cinema NOW!
to Open in November
In celebration of the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit slated for late November and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-Korea dialogue relations, the ASEAN Culture House will be holding ASEAN Cinema Week 2019—ASEAN Cinema NOW!
The film festival will tour Korea, beginning in Seoul on November 1–3 before moving to other Korean cities including Busan, Jeju, and Gwangju. A series of 10 films, all of which enjoyed great domestic popularity and acclaim, will be screened, with one movie on offer from each of the 10 ASEAN member countries. The event will also provide local fans with the opportunity to meet famous directors and actors from ASEAN.
The festival is expected to play an important role in expanding cultural exchange between Korea and the nations of Southeast Asia by showcasing the dynamic growth of the ASEAN film industry and introducing well- made and engaging ASEAN movies to Korean audiences. An opening ceremony, to be held at CGV Myeongdong Station Cine Library in downtown Seoul, will be attended by ASEAN directors and actors, as well as Korean cultural and movie personalities. The ceremony will be open to the public.
After the three-day screening at CGV Cine Library, ASEAN Cinema Week will continue at the Busan Cinema Center on November 15–16, Megabox Jeju on December 7, and the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju on December 12–13. The tour will then travel on to other cities through May of next year. All are welcome to this exciting and meaningful festival of captivating ASEAN films.
