Intense Difference of Its Own Exhibition Celebrates Canada-Korea Amity

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Canada-Korea diplomatic relations, a special exhibition, titled Intense Difference of Its Own, is currently on display at the KF Gallery in Seoul, showcasing works by 20 Canadian and Korean artists with disabilities.

The exhibition has been made possible through the cooperation of the Canadian Embassy in Korea and the National accessArts Centre (NaAC), the oldest and largest disability arts organization in Canada, and with support of the Alberta Korea Office. The exhibition’s 70-odd works present the artists’ unique perspectives and creative worlds.

Exhibiting artists include the acclaimed Korean-Canadian sculptor Won Lee (1946–2021) and Pixel Kim (Kim Hyunwoo), a multi-genre artist noted for experimental two- and three-dimensional works as well as music and media installations. Also on show are drawings, paintings, videos, and music produced by nine Canadian artists, including Michelle Bennie, Brian Ehnis, and Carol Harris, in cooperation with independent studios.

The exhibition acknowledges the value of differences present in the works of artists with disabilities, by shedding light on their sentiments, perspectives, and aesthetic styles. In doing so, it highlights their immense talent and experimental spirit, and their potential to play a leading role in cultural exchanges. The exhibition runs until August 12 and admission is free.
