Garuda, Guadian of Gods and Kings

The Thai royal flag features a red bird at the center. This is Garuda, known as Krut in Thai. The mythical bird that is said to carry the god Vishnu, one of the supreme Hindu gods, is also found on Thai banknotes. Because Garuda is a symbol of the royal family, it is not easily accessible for use by private companies. If anyone receives permission to use it, it gives them immense credibility.

The king of Thailand uses the title “Rama.” Rama is a hero in Indian mythology and the protagonist of the epic Ramayana. He is the human form of the god Vishnu on Earth. The use of this title by the king of Thailand therefore represents the deification of the king. The fact that Garuda, who fought for Vishnu while carrying him on its back, symbolizes the royal family perhaps signifies that it also protects the Thai royal family.
