If We Dream Too Long is the first novel written by novelist, doctor, poet, and playwright Goh Poh Seng. Widely known as the first Singaporean novel, If We Dream Too Long tells the story of a young dreamer who experiences the conflict between the aspirations of youth and the demands of society and family. The novel, set in 1960s Singapore, is said to reflect the unique identity of Singaporean society; it won a Fiction Book Award in 1976 from the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS) and has been translated into Russian, Japanese, and Tagalog. Author Goh Poh Seng received the Cultural Medallion from the National Arts Council of Singapore in 1982 in recognition of his contribution to literature.
