Winter Issue of ‘Koreana’ Highlights the Many Faces of Busan

Busan is Korea’s largest port city and its second largest city after Seoul. After the seizure of Seoul during the Korean War, Busan played a crucial role as Korea’s provisional capital. The winter issue of Koreana, the KF’s comprehensive Korean arts and culture quarterly, expounds on the identity of Busan through aspects including international exchange, its role as provisional capital, and its status as a city of film. Also featured are the works of world-recognized artist Lee Bul; Dongnaehakchum, the elegant folk dance that originated in Busan’s Dongnae-gu; the Korea National Opera’s performance of 1945, which has been hailed as a groundbreaking start to a new chapter in Korean opera; and the story of Sakabe Hitomi, a graphic designer and picture book author who attended school in Korea from middle school through university. The Koreana winter issue is available online at www.koreana.or.kr
