Year-End, New Year’s Greetings from KFVN
The Korea Foundation Volunteer Network brought many children and foreign volunteers from diverse countries together to discuss and experience aspects of a variety of cultures. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to share these meaningful experiences with them and wonderful relationships and memories. The year 2019 has passed by in the blink of an eye, but the good times we shared through the KFVN’s programs will have a lasting effect. We wish everyone related to the KFVN both health and happiness in the year 2020 and look forward to their activities as they carry out their missions in the days to come.

Meeting the World in Korea: Children of Autumnal Sunshine
On October 19, a Saturday of deep autumnal hues, the World Activity Class held its Meeting the World in Korea event at Pyeongtaek Children’s Center.
The children listened to Hong Sophal’s introduction of the culture and tropical fruits of Cambodia and enjoyed eating coconuts and drinking coconut water. They were particularly delighted to learn how the taste of a coconut changes as it ages.
Patel Shekhar Kumar gave an explanation of the many languages used in India and Indian traditional dance, and offered a yoga demonstration. Unlike the teammates and volunteers who had difficulty moving their bodies as instructed, the children were very flexible and lively, generating laughter among all the participants.
This was the first time for both of the foreign volunteers to visit a children’s center outside of Seoul. They got along with the children easily and had a wonderful time communicating and sharing the day together. Kumar said, “It has been quite a long time since I spent time with children after leaving India. But we warmed up to each other quickly. I am thankful that the children listened attentively about the unfamiliar culture of India.”
