2021 ASEAN Cinema Week — ON:TACT

From March 12 to 25, the ASEAN Culture House, operated by the KF, successfully held the 2021 ASEAN Cinema Week — ON:TACT. As part of the event, 15 recent movies were screened, of such diverse genres as romance, action, comedy, and horror, demonstrating the steady growth of ASEAN films.

To comply with social distancing regulations, films were screened both on- and offline. The online screenings were shown on a designated channel on Naver TV. They were accompanied by additional videos, including congratulatory messages from the embassies of ASEAN member countries, greetings from featured directors, film talks featuring notable ASEAN figures, and other related content.

The offline screenings were held on two separate weekends in March at CGV Apgujeong in Seoul and the Busan Cinema Center in Korea’s film capital, all in strict observance of COVID-19 prevention guidelines. The screenings in Busan included visits by special guests and film talks that helped viewers gain a deeper understanding of the screened films.

The ASEAN Cinema Week hopes to have provided a safe occasion to appreciate ASEAN movies at home and at the cinema, as well as opportunities to gain new perspectives on ASEAN culture.
