2021 ASEAN Cooking Class for Spring and Summer
After a two-month run, the spring and summer term of the 2021 ASEAN Cooking Class has successfully wrapped up. Beginning in late May, the cooking classes were held every Friday and Saturday. The program introduced a total of 20 dishes — two each from the 10 ASEAN member states, including mie goreng, rendang, pad thai, and bánh mì — to some 350 participants from very diverse backgrounds. Among those in attendance were people with a keen interest in Southeast Asian cuisine; housewives with masterly cooking skills; a middle-aged couple with a love for cooking; and a couple that attended the cooking class on a date.
During the Cambodian cooking class in the second week of June, Cambodian Ambassador to Korea, H.E. Mr. Long Dimanche, and his wife, Ms. Nhem Davy, gave a special presentation to the class, introducing Cambodian cuisine and delivering a cooking demonstration. The ASEAN Cooking Class aims to deepen Koreans’ understanding of the varied dishes and culinary cultures of ASEAN countries and bring ASEAN dishes to the dining tables of Korean homes.
