Online Concert Series: Musical Rendezvous of Korea and France
The Korean Cultural Center in France and the Seoul Tutti Ensemble
jointly present the online concert series “Rendez-vous musical entre
France et Corée” (Musical Rendezvous of France and Korea). The Seoul
Tutti Ensemble has gained attention for its creative performances and
diverse renditions.
The series consists of 10 short concerts that suggest various
intersections of Korean and Western music cultures. Viewers can enjoy
traditional Korean lyric songs performed using Western instruments;
works by French composers played by Korean classical musicians; works
by Korean contemporary composers; and an arrangement of Arirang for
classical instruments of the West.
The series opens with The Autumn Fan, composed by Choe Uzong and with
lyrics by Bae Sam-sik. As the first traditional Korean lyric song to
be reimagined through the lens of Western arts, the piece is
recognized for demonstrating traditional Korean culture’s ability to
transcend time and be transformed.
The Western classical pieces played by Korean artists are Darius
Milhaud’s Sonatine à Trois, Op. 221b; Maurice Ravel’s Pavane pour une
infante défunte; and Sergey Prokofiev’s Five Melodies for Violin and
Piano, Op. 35b.
With a wide variety of pieces played by esteemed Korean musicians, the
concert series will be an opportunity for fans of Korean and French
classical music to immerse in the beauty of song.
