Korean Art in America: Nam June Paik Retrospective at SFMOMA
The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA), headed by Director
Wijin Park, presents a virtual walk-through of a retrospective
exhibition of the visionary artist Nam June Paik as the third segment
of its “Korean Art in America” video series. The series allows global
viewers to appreciate Korean exhibitions at major US museums from the
comfort of their own homes by making offline cultural platforms and
events available online through YouTube, Facebook, and the KCCLA
website. The retrospective Nam June Paik, held at the San Francisco
Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) from May 8 to October 3, 2021, was the
first exhibition of Paik’s work in the Western United States and saw
great success.
The virtual walk-through features the 200-odd works by Paik shown at
the retrospective as well as interviews with the two SFMOMA curators
who organized the exhibition, Rudolf Frieling, curator of media arts,
and Andrea Nitsche-Krupp, assistant curator of media arts. As they
lead the virtual tour, they provide interesting insights on Paik’s
works.
The KCCLA will continue to expand its “Korean Art in America” series,
introducing Korean art exhibition halls, Korean artifacts, and more
exhibitions at major US museums via its website and social media
accounts such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
