On an unusually warm Saturday in May, the World Activity Class paid a visit to Mokhyang Elementary School in western Incheon and introduced Uzbekistan, Chile, and Russia to some of the students. After briefing the young audience on the history and culture of the three nations, the group handed out passports to welcome the children on a trip to discover exotic ways of life around the world.
  The first stop on the journey was Uzbekistan, where Ms. Sidikova Robiya showed the national flag of the country, explained the meaning and symbolism of its colors, and taught the children how to talk about themselves and share their dreams in Uzbek. Ms. Robiya recorded their efforts and played their voices back to the class, much to the children’s delight.
  After bidding farewell to Uzbekistan, the students traveled next to Chile. They got a peek at the ancient culture of the country by making moai figures, one of the symbols of Chile, with colorful paper cups. Ms. Anna Tokareva followed by inviting the children to her native Russia, teaching them to color matryoshka dolls while sharing the history and culture of her country. She also helped to dispel a number of common misconceptions they had about Russia.
  Wrapping up the day’s program, the class held a fun quiz on all the new things the children had learned about the three countries. The young audience’s zeal and curiosity made them all quickly forget about the prematurely warm weather. Ms. Tokareva expressed special thanks for the students’ active participation, saying: “I will be leaving soon, and it is nice to have made such nice memories with the children.”
