Salt of the Jungle

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Korea-Vietnam diplomatic relationship, the KF will hold a special exhibition from August 17 to October 18 at the KF Gallery. Entitled Salt of the Jungle, the show will highlight the many similarities between the two countries. Both nations have complicated modern histories, and both are experiencing difficulties reconciling the differences between the North and South.
The artists featured in the exhibition are all in their 30s and 40s, with each shining a light on society through the window of contemporary art. Most of the Vietnamese participants belong to the “post-Doi Moi policy” generation, who were educated and became socially active after the government’s introduction of the open-door policy in 1986. Their Korean counterparts are also from the same generation, and they seek to highlight the diversity of Korean society through flexible yet keen observations.
Besides a number of individual exhibitions by young artists from Vietnam, there have been precious few exhibitions showcasing the confluence and divergence of Vietnamese and Korean art together in one location. It is expected that this exhibition will become a starting point to launch further communication regarding the complicated history between Korea and Vietnam.
Details are available at the KF website (www.kf.or.kr) and the KF Gallery Facebook page (www.facebook.com/koreafoundationgallery).
