Conference, Exhibition Mark 120th Anniversary of Korean Studies in Russia
In celebration of the 120th anniversary of Korean Studies in Russia, the KF will sponsor an international academic conference at Saint Petersburg State University in Russia on October 13–14. The university became the world’s first to offer Korean language classes in 1897, and the upcoming conference will commemorate the 120th year of Korean education in Russia. The conference will be attended by over 100 scholars from Russia and around the world, with discussion centered on 12 key themes including the history and achievement of Korean studies in Russia; the socio-cultural dynamics of Russian and Korean societies; Russia-Korea political and economic relations; and Russian studies in Korea.
Another event to be held as part of the anniversary celebrations is the exhibition The Ascetic Path: Korean Dansaekhwa, co-hosted by the KF and the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition will showcase the hidden complexity of Korean monochrome paintings, with the works developing their charm through shades, materials, texture, and technique. The show will be held at the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art, October 13–November 12.
