Education and Publicity Team

The KF aims at promoting international friendship and correct understanding of Korea in the international community and conducts a variety of programs enhancing Korean Studies, cultural exchanges and global networking, and publication and video productions.
The Korea Foundation Volunteer Network (KFVN), created as a child of such efforts, is celebrating its 10th year. It has three teams that work to help foreign residents in Korea adapt to their host country through diverse cultural programs: the Education Publicity Team, the Korean Culture Class, and the World Activity Class.
Among the three, the Education Publicity Team is responsible for outsiders’ first impression of the KF, as it offers quarterly orientation of volunteers and covers their activities. The team has publicized its own activities and participants, but it has not been given a spotlight for a more general audience. We decided to highlight the team’s endeavors and held an interview with team leader Heo Ji-eun in commemoration of the KFVN’s 10th anniversary.

Could you brief us on what your team does?

We hold quarterly orientations for volunteers and an annual meeting and open workshop for them. We also cover the volunteers’ activities in the Korean Culture Class and the World Activity Class and write reports on them for newsletters.

How long have you been with the team? What are the most unforgettable of all your experiences?

This is my fourth year. In KFVN, there are many long-time members. The most unforgettable was the Chuseok event of last year when we took to the streets in the traditional Hanbok and publicized Korean culture. We could experience public diplomacy while teaching Korean folk plays to foreigners.

What are your team’s future plans?

We plan to recruit members from those who have completed orientation. We welcome anyone who is positive and open to different cultures. We will do our best to expand contact and exchange between foreigners and Koreans and to enhance knowledge about Korea in a way that grows sympathy and communication.
