Temple Stay at Gilsang-sa
On October 27, the Korean Culture Class enjoyed a two-day, one-night temple stay at Gilsang-sa Temple in northern Seoul, well-known for its founder, the Venerable Beopjeong, a famous essayist who authored the bestseller Non-Possession. The participants took part in the Buddhist service, meditation, and performed the customary 108 bows. With the autumnal foliage surrounding them, they also toured around the beautiful temple complex under the guidance of the Monk Gudam, who briefed them on the temple’s founding history and its present features. For foreign participants, it was a meaningful day of experiencing traditional Korean culture and etiquette, regardless of their religious beliefs.
