On February 26, the Korean government announced the “2019 Comprehensive Action Plan for Governmental Innovation,” which outlines the future directions of and tasks for government innovation. Under the aim of realizing “a government of the people,” this year, the government will be pursuing innovation that is focused on an all-embracing style of administration, the creation of innovative results whose effects can be felt by citizens in their everyday lives, and the production of a momentum for consistent changes in officialdom.
   The plan was first prepared in 2018 for government operation that is centered on social values, but its realization was found to have fallen short of many citizens’ expectations. Considering last year’s less-than-stellar performance, the government will seek to back up the national vision of an innovative, all-embracing state by strengthening social value–oriented management of the nation as well as outcome-producing innovation that can be appreciated by citizens in all areas of daily life.
   To support the successful implementation of the “Comprehensive Action Plan for Governmental Innovation” in 2019, the KF will strive to develop new programs and services that promote citizen participation and greater awareness by citizens of public diplomacy in compliance with the main tasks and objectives mentioned in the plan.
