2023 Central Asia Spring Festival in Seoul—‘Playground’

From May 13 to 14, the 2023 Central Asia Spring Festival in Seoul will be staged by the KF Korea–Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat at Cheonggye Plaza. Since 2019, the secretariat has held this event annually to improve the Korean citizen’s interest in the cultures of five Central Asian countries, and to promote cultural exchange between Korea and the region.

Under the theme of “Picnic with Central Asia,” this year’s festival will introduce various cultural experiences appealing to both adults and children. Traditional and modern performances including the designer fashion show from each Central Asian country will be presented. The festival will also feature various booths where children can participate in traditional games and where visitors can experience making a custom-made T-shirt with Cyrillic letters and their own calligraphy seals.

Throughout the festival, the programs with the fairytales from Central Asia will be also presented and the visitors can have a chance to win prizes awarded by a lucky draw. Festival participants will have the opportunity to taste sumalak, the sweet pudding eaten at the Central Asian New Year festival, Nowruz, and other delicacies such as medovik, a honey layer cake; plov, a rice dish usually made with lamb and vegetables; and somsa, a pastry filled with minced lamb or beef.

Enjoy the unique and dynamic cultures of Central Asia at the 2023 Central Asia Spring Festival in Seoul!
