KF and Portuguese Embassy Jointly Present The Enchanted Loom
The KF Gallery in central Seoul is currently presenting The Enchanted Loom, an exhibition highlighting the works of three Portuguese artists—Bela Silva, Bruno Castro Santos, and Jorge Nesbitt.
Neuroscientist Charles S. Sherrington used the metaphor of “the enchanted loom” to describe his conception of happenings taking place in the cerebral cortex when one wakes from sleep, comparing it to weaving patterns. Sherrington’s metaphor corresponds to the arts and culture of Portugal which are characteristically diverse after centuries of weaving native culture and external elements together.
By appreciating the works of the Portuguese trio, art lovers may also experience an “enchanted loom” moment, woven by the weft of tradition and the warp of modernity. Bela Silva’s drawings vibrantly express the joy of life; Bruno Castro Santos’ paintings exhibit an ascetic way of life; and Jorge Nesbitt shows versatility based on tradition through his drawings and crafts.
Admission to the exhibition, which runs until the end of May, is free. For more information, please visit the KF website (www.kf.or.kr).
