[Review] 2020 ASEAN-Korea Craft Market

From October 30 through November 1, the 2020 ASEAN-Korea Craft Market was held at F1963 Square in Busan. The program was organized by the ASEAN Culture House, operated by the KF.

The market was held at an outdoor space to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and visitors were required to make prior reservations online. Despite the inconveniences brought by the pandemic, the market turned out to be a big success with the attendance of about 1,900 shoppers and visitors.

Under the theme “Journey of Taste for ASEAN,” the market offered a craft shop, a pop-up store, a workshop, and a craft studio. At the ASEAN-Korea Craft Shop, more than 270 kinds of handicrafts were displayed and sold by 11 groups, one from each participating country, showing the harmony of traditional and contemporary features of craft in the ASEAN region and Korea.

At the Fair Trade Pop-up Store, four Korean companies that have pioneered fair trade with Southeast Asian countries introduced eco-friendly craftworks produced by ASEAN residents. At the Creative Life Workshop, visitors and craft artists of the participating countries met online and produced silk screens, dream catchers made of natural materials, and knot bracelets. At the Multicultural Studio, visitors tried their hand at craft techniques with people from the ASEAN region who now live in Korea.

The ASEAN-Korea Craft Market has been designed to promote such important social values as the continuation of traditional customs, the peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity of regional communities, and eco-friendly businesses and activities. It is hoped that next year, the market will become an even more exciting and colorful event held in a safer and healthier environment.
