ASEAN Culture House Opens Digital Experience Zone

From January 31, the ASEAN Culture House (ACH), operated by the KF, will welcome visitors in a new environment created by digital technology. The ACH Digital Experience Zone will offer realistic experiences of ASEAN culture through digital media like virtual reality, LED media walls, immersive videos, and interactive avatars.

Visitors entering the ACH’s main entrance will be welcomed by an array of green plants that lead to an information media wall highlighting ASEAN countries and their unique features. The first-floor Community Hall displays the gorgeous nature of a tropical forest in Sumatra, Indonesia, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, on the large-scale Live Media Wall. The subtle climatic changes in Sumatra are reflected in real time by 3D digital technology on the gigantic screen, giving visitors the impression of being on the Indonesian island.

The Immersive Video Hall, separately set up on the first-floor Exhibition Hall, screens panoramic videos that artistically reproduce the Ramakien, the epic of Thailand, as well as cities in Malaysia, Singapore, and Viet Nam. Using multiplanar imaging and a stereophonic sound system, the hall offers a more realistic experience of ancient and modern times in ASEAN countries. This library-turned-digital playground allows visitors to draw their own avatars that come alive as 3D characters, highlighting festival sites in Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and the Philippines. Through the avatars, visitors can virtually experience festivals in ASEAN countries, including those featuring water and light, and some other regional events that involve shooting rockets and arrows.

Before leaving the ACH, all visitors are advised to explore cultural remains in Lao PDR, Thailand, Viet Nam, and other ASEAN countries at the revamped VR Lounge, relaxing at a rest area comfortably furnished with rattan and bamboo furniture.
