TCS Young Ambassadors Visit Jeonju for Korean Experience

From February 7 to 21, thirty collegians and graduate students from China, Japan, and Korea participated in online and offline exchanges through the Young Ambassador Program (YAP) by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS).

YAP offered participants a diverse package of activities that included lectures related to improving mutual understanding between the three countries, as well as discussions, site visits, and cultural experiences. Among the places visited by participants, both in person and online, were Jeonju, the city in North Jeolla Province selected as a 2023 Culture City of East Asia; Xiangyang in China’s northwestern Hubei Province; and the East Asia Foundation in Seoul.

From February 11 to 13, the Young Ambassadors paid a visit to Jeonju savoring the beauty and flavors of the city by touring the traditional Korean houses in its Hanok Village, and making bibimbap, the famous dish of steamed rice topped with seasoned vegetables and meat, and injeolmi, a rice cake coated with soybean powder. During their visit to Jeonju City Hall, the participants were briefed on the current status of Jeonju’s international exchanges and its role as a 2023 Culture City of East Asia.

A Culture City of East Asia has been selected annually since May 2012, when an agreement was reached at the fourth Korea-China-Japan Culture Ministers’ Meeting to promote diverse cultural exchanges among the three countries. In addition to Jeonju, Chengdu and Meizhou in China and Japan’s Shizuoka Prefecture have been selected as 2023 Culture Cities of East Asia.

The Young Ambassadors’ mission is to increase unity between the three countries in the coming days, and their recent visit to Jeonju is expected to have positive effects on the trilateral cooperation.
