Korea Ranks Third on Nikkei ‘Major Goods and Services Share Survey’

Korean industrial firms topped six categories in the 2022 “Major Goods and Services Survey,” claiming third place among countries whose firms have the greatest number of globally dominant products, services, parts, and materials. The survey is conducted by The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, or Nikkei, a popular Japanese economics newspaper. First place was taken by US firms, which topped 22 out of 63 categories, and second place went to Chinese firms, which topped 16 categories. Korea and Japan shared third place, with firms excelling in six categories.

Korean firms topped such categories as DRAM semiconductors, NAND flash memory, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels, smartphones, Ultra-slim TVs, and shipbuilding, registering top performance in one more category than in the previous year. While Samsung Electronics claimed first place in five electronics categories, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries topped the shipbuilding category.
