[Review] The 24th Korea-Japan Forum:
Discussion of Reconstructing Korea-Japan Relations
The KF and the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) co-hosted the 24th Korea-Japan Forum at the ANA Inter Continental Tokyo hotel on August 24–26, 2016. Based on a theme of “Reconstructing Korea-Japan Relations,” 50 distinguished representatives from both countries discussed key issues and mutually beneficial strategies, including civil and grassroots exchanges, East Asia’s political situation and diplomatic security, international economic and political relations, and Korea-Japan economic cooperation.
Of particular note was the inception of the Korea-Japan Forum Award. The initial award was bestowed upon the late Wakamiya Yoshibumi (1948–2016), a former correspondent of the Asahi Shimbun who contributed significantly to the advancement of friendly Korea-Japan relations.
The Korea-Japan Forum is an annual gathering that was established in 1993 in Seoul, under which each side serves as host country in alternate years. The forum serves as a platform for influential leaders from both countries to get together for in-depth discussions about issues of mutual concern and interest.
