[Review] Support for Floating Dreams
at Totally Thames Festival, UK

The Korea Foundation extended support for the display of “Floating Dreams”, an installation work by multimedia artist Ik-Joong Kang, which was constructed in the middle of the River Thames in London as the feature exhibition at the Totally Thames Festival 2016.
Known as the world’s largest riverside festival, the Totally Thames Festival takes place along the River Thames annually during the month of September. This year’s program featured a diverse variety of exciting events. Every year, the festival organizers provide one artist with the opportunity to set up an installation work in the center of the River Thames. This year, Korean artist Ik-Joong Kang was chosen.
“Floating Dreams” was made by assembling the drawings created by 500 Koreans who had been displaced by the Korean War. The drawings express their longing for unification and the homes they left behind. Situated on the River Thames for the entire month of September, “Floating Dreams” attracted countless visitors, tourists and Londoners to the riverside. The prominent display of Kang’s installation work was meant to bring attention to the pain and suffering of displaced Koreans, for whom their hometowns remain out of reach, as well as to inspire hope for a brighter future.
