[Review] Photography Exhibition: Bright, Passionate, Beautiful! Art for a Better Place

The KF organized a photo exhibition showcasing the works of five photographers who captured the transformation of Tam Thanh, a small Vietnamese fishing village, into a village of beautiful murals. This project was undertaken as part of the Korean-Vietnamese joint community art program “Art for a Better Community.”
The program, inspired by mural villages in Korea, was carried out by the KF in June 2016. Korean mural artists, youth volunteers from Korea and Vietnam, and local residents and art teachers worked together to paint the walls and houses of the village in pastel colors and create murals depicting the ocean and the lives of the villagers. With the cooperation of member organizations of the Global Public Diplomacy Network, five photographers were dispatched to Tam Thanh from Korea, Turkey, and the Philippines to document the efforts of and friendship between the villagers and volunteers as well as peaceful scenes of the village and the locals’ everyday lives. Their photos were displayed at the KF Gallery from December 26, 2016, to January 24, 2017.
Various events were held in conjunction with the exhibition, including a talk with the photographers and the exhibit curator, a youth workshop, and a lecture on public art. Through these events, visitors to the exhibition were able to gain a broader appreciation of its content and therefore have a more meaningful experience.
