The first Korea-Japan 100 Citizens’ Future Talk was held in Jeju Island on November 9–11, jointly organized by the KF, Seoul National University Institute for Japanese Studies, and the University of Tokyo Center for Contemporary Korean Studies. Under the theme of “Common tasks and opportunities: Korea-Japan Cooperation and Joint Response,” the forum covered common issues such as human resources and cultural exchange, science and technology cooperation, demographic shifts and social welfare cooperation, and grassroots cooperation. Ordinary citizens of the two countries played key roles in the heated two-day discussion, concluding with the Korea-Japan 100 Citizens’ Declaration that will undoubtedly serve as the basis for a future-oriented bilateral relationship.
  The meeting was launched to seek creative solutions to the changing face of Northeast Asia and common problems of the two neighboring countries. Unlike previous gatherings where the dialogue was steered by specialists, the talk was attended by citizens and leaders of various NGOs in addition to experts and academics. The second meeting will be held in Japan in 2018.
