[Review] Korean Politics: Candlelight Rallies and Democracy in Korea

More than 100 Korean and foreign political scientists participated in the Korean Politics Forum on Candlelight Rallies and Democracy in Korea held in in Brisbane, Australia, on July 24.
  Co-hosted by the KF and the Korean Political Science Association, the forum was conducted in line with the International Political Science Association(IPSA) World Congress held on July 21–25. Panelists made presentations on the democratic changes in Korea and the continuity brought forth by the candlelight rallies in 2016 and 2017, participated in by millions of people.
  The meeting provided scholars from around the world with the opportunity to discuss and expound on the historical significance, background, and result of the candlelight rallies. It was a meaningful occasion that promoted the international community’s interest in Korean democracy and enhanced understanding of both the candlelight vigils and the resilience of democracy.
  Since the IPSA was founded in 1949 under the aegis of UNESCO, more than 50 major national associations of political science have participated as members. The World Congress of the IPSA attracts the biggest names from the political science community, and this year marks the event’s 25th anniversary, with 2,500 scholars from around the world contributing under the theme “Borders and Margins.”
