US Social Studies Teachers to Visit Korea
A group of 30 American social studies teachers will visit Korea on July 6–16 as part of the The Development of the Curriculum on Korea’s Place in AP and Teachers Training Program in 2019 to develop educational materials for Korea-related education. The trip is sponsored by the KF and organized by the US-based World History Digital Education Foundation.
Before coming to Korea, participants attended preliminary classes, taking online lessons on Korea’s culture and history and attending a webinar. While in Korea, the group will visit key historical locations, including the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), Cheongju Early Printing Museum, and historical remains of the Silla Kingdom. To observe and experience not only the ancient history but also the modernization process of Korea, participants will also tour Korean industrial firms, including POSCO and Samsung Electronics.
The visit has been planned to help American educators obtain an accurate understanding of Korea and to provide higher-quality information on Korea to their students. The trip is expected to serve as an effective means of expanding Korea-related education across the United States.
