[Review] 2019 Jeju Study Tour of 100 Chinese Graduate Students in Korea

The KF conducted a study tour on Jeju Island on June 21–23 for participants in the <2019 Forum for 100 Chinese Graduate Students in Korea>. During the tour, the students were able to take in the beautiful scenery of the island and deepen their understanding of the local Korean community.
This year’s participants in the forum, which was first launched in 2018, were Chinese students currently pursuing masters or doctoral courses in Korea who play leading roles in the Chinese student community. The forum was designed to promote positive understanding and accurate knowledge of Korea, as well as to foster closer relations between the visiting students and their host country. The 100 members formally gathered for the first time on April 15. Before going to Jeju Island, they paid visits to the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and areas of urban redevelopment in and around Makercity Sewoon. They also attended a special lecture on Korea-China relations and Korean society.
Of the 100 participants, 77 students from 26 different schools joined the Jeju study tour. They visited the Office of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and attended a lecture entitled “History, Culture and Economy of Jeju” presented by Kim Soung-eun, Ambassador for International Relations in Jeju. They also cleaned Seogwipo, helping to beautify the local community. At Jeju 4.3 Peace Park, they learned about the history of Jeju, and they came to better relate to Jeju’s residents while visiting the Spirited Garden and Seobok Exhibition Hall.
will be adjourned after three more meetings, to be held in September, October, and November. The program hopes that the participants will mature into exemplary next- generation scholars well-versed in Korean culture and issues.
