Sunset Kayaking with Volunteers on Hangang River

The longtime mission of the KFVN has been to introduce diverse world cultures to Koreans and to likewise share Korean traditions and customs with foreigners, all through the participation of volunteers from around the globe. On May 25, the KFVN invited volunteers who have given their time to the program to spend an evening kayaking on the Hangang River under the setting sun.
The volunteers gathered at the riverside Ttukseom Park, where local residents were enjoying outdoor leisure time. They headed to the water for an experience in a new aspect of urban culture, partaking in water sports like windsurfing and kayaking.
Sophal Hong, a World Activity Class volunteer representing Cambodia, said, “This is the first time I’ve kayaked in Korea. It’s truly great to do this in the heart of the big city.” Ezgi Darici from Turkey said, “The sunset on the Hangang River and the bridges that I saw from the boat were just wonderful, fantastic.”
It was a joyful day for the volunteers who had devoted so much of their time to others. Getting away from the routine of their city life, they mingled with one another, talking and unwinding. The KFVN hopes that the time shared was meaningful and will help to create closer bonds among the volunteers that will strengthen the group’s efforts in the days to come.
