KF to Publish a Book of Thank You Letters by US Peace Corps
Volunteers
In 2020, the KF sent COVID-19 survival boxes containing Korean filter
masks, antimicrobial gloves, and souvenirs to 653 former US Peace
Corps volunteers, wishing for their well-being in the COVID-19
pandemic. All recipients had served in Korea between 1966 and 1981,
lending aid in the fields of economic reconstruction, education, and
health.
Since 2008, the KF has conducted an annual program that repays these
volunteers by inviting them back to Korea. Last year, however, the
visits had to be put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead,
the KF decided to express its gratitude by sending the survival boxes
to former volunteers across the US.
The recipients responded by sending more than 150 emails and
hand-written messages of thanks. The KF will share these letters,
brimming with love for Korea and fond memories of the volunteers’ time
here, in the form of a published book in both Korean and English.
Titled Mailbox of Peace, the book will be released in print and as an
eBook in September.
