From August 19 to December 22, the Textile Museum of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., will hold the exhibition Korean Fashion: From Royal Court to Runway, with support from the KF.

The exhibition showcases the 125-year history of Korean clothing from the Joseon Dynasty to the present. Among the everyday clothing and ceremonial attire from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), visitors will be able to admire some of the same hanbok (traditional Korean attire) that were once exhibited at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. Also on display will be dresses by the first generation of Korean fashion designers in the 1950s and fresh-off-the-runway ensembles that recently earned unprecedented recognition abroad.

By presenting the shifts in Korean clothing during the 20th century, the exhibition promises to be a wonderful opportunity to explore how historical and cultural elements merged and formed the foundation of today’s ever-expanding global Hallyu (Korean wave).
