2023 ASSITEJ International Summer Festival ASEAN Special in Busan

From August 9 to 10 and 12 to 13, the KF ASEAN Culture House (KF–ACH) will stage the 2023 ASSITEJ International Summer Festival ASEAN Special in Busan. “ASSITEJ” stands for the Association Internationale du Théâtre pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse (International Association of Theatre & Performing Arts for Children & Young People).

In joint celebration of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia-Korea and 65th anniversary of Thailand-Korea diplomatic relations, the KF–ACH, in cooperation with ASSITEJ Korea, will host performing art troupes from both countries to stage pantomimes at the KF–ACH Grand Auditorium. Although the performances are predominantly for children, the ultimate goal is to provide people of all ages with fun cultural experiences.

On August 9 and 10, the Ta Lent Show Theater from Thailand will present Lady & Gentle Mime and the object theater Ta Lent Show. The theatrical troupe’s performances combine artist Nuttapol “Ta” Kummata’s mime, puppetry, and object theater. Touted as the No. 1 mime artist group in Thailand, Ta Lent Show has given performances in Indonesia, Malaysia, Scotland, Singapore, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Lady & Gentle Mime is a pantomime that stimulates viewers’ imagination based on familiar and universal stories about married couples. Ta Lent Show is a collection of five theatrical performances that incorporate household supplies and invigorate children’s imagination while offering food for thought to grown-ups.

From August 12 to 13, KACA CAKA: The Mirror will be performed by the Papermoon Puppet Theatre from Indonesia. Since its establishment in Yogyakarta in 2006, Papermoon has toured more than 10 countries around the world, staging over 30 puppet shows, visual art installations, and exhibitions. KACA CAKA: The Mirror follows the story of a five-year-old boy, Caka, and the world of imagination that changes every time he gazes into a mirror.
